“If you can’t make up your mind, I can help you.”
Juan smoked the half-finished cigar and said meaningfully, “The cigar’s almost burned out.”
He was waiting for the cigar to burn down. Mo Wendao held the syringe in his palm. He was waiting too.
Waiting for the spider-like mechanical creation to crawl all the way down through the factory’s ventilation ducts and reach the pharmaceutical production room underground. Waiting as well for hummingbird-like drones to infiltrate the first floor.
Seven armed hovercars approached from the distance beneath the cover of night. This was the largest force Mo Wendao had seen since arriving in District 52. This was... a true war between sects!
The only thing he did not quite understand was the news van driving along the winding road toward the factory. When its doors opened, his spiritual sense picked up a familiar figure. It was none other than the female anchor from News Channel 52 whom he had seen on television that afternoon. She and the staff methodically set up equipment for a live broadcast, naturally attracting the gang members’ attention.

The rolling shutter opened, and two armed men strode toward the news van while cursing.
On their third step, a figure entirely clad in a Tactical Unit night combat uniform emerged from the shadows. The alloy panel on the outside of his forearm slid open with a click, and three glowing red monomolecular blades sprang violently from their mechanical sheaths. The blades lightly swept across the gang members’ bodies. The two men were still frozen in the motion of walking forward when, in the next instant, they silently collapsed into chunks of flesh and cybernetic components scattered across the ground.

“Ready. Equipment test.”
The female anchor from News Channel 52 continued working methodically, completely ignoring everything that had happened nearby. The moment the camera turned toward her, her expressionless face immediately blossomed into a warm smile.
“Welcome to News Channel 52. I’m your host, Samantha, bringing you tonight’s live investigative report...”
Inside the factory, Juan’s voice sounded almost simultaneously with the anchor’s. He crushed out the dying cigar and picked up a syringe as their words overlapped. “Your time is up.”

Juan pushed back his chair and walked toward Mo Wendao step by step, matching the pace of the spider robot directly beneath their feet. The robot’s target was the terminal connecting all the electrical lines in the pharmaceutical production room.
“Roll up your sleeve. This is an honor for you. I don’t want to make this ugly.”
He was already standing before Mo Wendao, looking down at him from above.
Mo Wendao’s lips moved, but Juan could not hear what he said because a thunderous explosion drowned out everything. The violent tremor from beneath their feet hurled Juan into the corner, where his forehead slammed heavily into the wall. Almost at the exact same moment, every light in the factory went out.

The armed hovercars hovered above the factory, and ropes dropped simultaneously from each one. Enforcers dressed in identical night combat uniforms descended along the ropes onto the roof.
Only then did the gang members inside the factory snap back to their senses.

“Ene...!”
They could not even finish sounding the alarm before the drones concealed in the darkness opened fire simultaneously. In an instant, bullets pierced their brains. An unknown amount of time later, hurried footsteps rapidly approached from the distance.
“Motherfucker! He’s a cop!”
The disheveled curly-haired man’s eyes were bloodshot as he roared and aimed the large-caliber weapon at Mo Wendao.
To his surprise, Mo Wendao, still sitting in the chair, did not beg for mercy. Faced with the pitch-black muzzle, he showed not the slightest intention of shrinking back. His expression was completely different from the timid, cowardly demeanor he had displayed in the car.
The curly-haired man actually saw a trace of pity in Mo Wendao’s eyes.

In that instant, he seemed to suddenly sense something and followed Mo Wendao’s gaze downward.
At some point, an infrared targeting circle had locked onto his throat.
“Boom!”
Everything above the curly-haired man’s chest instantly exploded into a cloud of blood. Under the impact of the sniper round, his shredded body flew backward like a kite with its string cut.
A standard battle in the style of the Enforcement Sect.
Mo Wendao even felt that it was difficult to call this a sect war. It was more like a one-sided massacre. Even the infamous Juan San Diego seemed to foresee his own fate as he glared venomously at Mo Wendao. “Don’t think the San Diego Group will let this go! You’re already dead! All of you are going to die!”

Yet instead of a victor’s mockery, the response he received made Juan’s pupils contract. Mo Wendao calmly nudged the corner of the table with his foot, causing the box containing the β-agent tablets near the edge to fall to the floor and roll straight to Juan.
“Reporters from News Channel 52 are here too. This is your only chance.”

Mo Wendao said, “You still have a hostage. Want to gamble on whether the Legal Affairs Bureau would kill a hostage during a live news broadcast?”
“You...”
“There’s no time.”
In Mo Wendao’s view, Juan San Diego’s defeat and death were already inevitable. But the one he was truly wary of at this moment was Morse, who had orchestrated the operation. Once the Enforcers occupied the factory, would Morse regard him as an informant who had infiltrated undercover, or as a member of the San Diego Group whom the Enforcers could conveniently shoot dead?

Mo Wendao could not judge what Morse was thinking, nor did he intend to entrust his fate to Morse’s credibility or kindness.
Although fellow Daoist Juan was already at death’s door, he could still help Mo Wendao one last time.
For example, he could take Mo Wendao out of the factory as a hostage and publicly draw a clear line between Mo Wendao and the San Diego Group during News Channel 52’s live broadcast. Under Juan’s shocked gaze, Mo Wendao voluntarily pulled the burlap sack back over his own head.
“You know what? You really are a fucking cyberpsycho!”

Juan suddenly burst into wild laughter. He swallowed two tablets, and under the effects of the β-agent, his laughter quickly transformed into an almost bestial roar. Although the words became indistinct, Mo Wendao still understood what Juan meant. “But before I deal with you, I’m going to fucking kill those Enforcers first!”
His body temperature rapidly soared, and his muscles expanded explosively, ripping his white suit into strips of cloth.

Mo Wendao locked his spiritual sense onto Juan, closely observing the changes the β-agent brought about in him.
Just as he had expected, excessively pure energy inflicted enormous damage on the physical body. Even a burly man like Juan, whose entire body had undergone cybernetic modification, found it difficult to fully withstand the burden of the β-agent.
On the other hand, after swallowing two β-agent tablets, Juan possessed tremendous strength. With only one hand, he lifted Mo Wendao into the air, then raised his other arm before his chest and smashed straight through the wall, creating a gaping hole. When the crimson, mountain-like humanoid beast appeared on camera, genuine surprise and fear finally surfaced on the female News Channel 52 anchor’s face.
An infrared targeting circle locked onto Juan’s chest. This time, however, the bullet powerful enough to blow a human body apart merely embedded itself in Juan’s muscle tissue. A black-clad figure wielding monomolecular blades swept toward Juan from behind, only for Juan to backhand him away with a single slap, sending him crashing heavily into the rubble.
When Juan sprinted at full speed, he was like a battering ram hurtling forward at tremendous speed. Every obstacle in his path was smashed aside through sheer brute force.
After overturning the entire news van, he actually tore open a gap in the Enforcers’ encirclement by force. Carrying Mo Wendao with him, he charged all the way into the distance and disappeared into the night.

What... was going on?
For the first time, events had gone beyond Mo Wendao’s expectations. Logically speaking, once fellow Daoist Juan took him hostage and appeared before News Channel 52’s cameras, Juan would have fulfilled his historic mission and could honorably retire.
Perhaps afterward, News Channel 52 would even interview Mo Wendao, and he would request anonymity.
Yet the Enforcers, who should have laid an inescapable net around the area, simply watched Juan escape.
When Mo Wendao once again swept his spiritual sense over the factory receding farther and farther behind them, he discovered that the Enforcer whom Juan had slapped into the rubble, seemingly leaving his fate unknown, calmly climbed back out. He casually dusted himself off and walked toward the News Channel 52 staff.
“Finished editing it? Let me see the rough cut.”

Morse’s voice came from beneath the hood. He stood behind the news crew, professionally directing them on how to present Juan’s dramatic entrance.
An astonishing thought suddenly surfaced in Mo Wendao’s mind. The Enforcers had never intended to pursue Juan in the first place, because the entire operation had been an advertisement from the very beginning!

An advertisement promoting the β-agent!
Compared to all the extravagant slogans in the world, what could be more convincing publicity than breaking through the Legal Affairs Bureau’s encirclement during a live news broadcast?
It was easy to imagine this footage spreading wildly across the internet in the future.
“Hahaha! I made it out! So much for the Legal Affairs Bureau!”

Seeing that there were no pursuers behind him, Juan stopped and threw his head back in wild laughter, his arrogance reaching its peak. Yet when he looked at Mo Wendao, the smile froze on his face, and he asked coldly, “What are you laughing at?”
There was something seriously strange about this kid. Even now, Juan still could not figure out what Mo Wendao was thinking.
“Fellow Daoist Juan, many thanks for lending me your aid today. I will naturally remember such kindness.”
“Unfortunately, fellow Daoist has already sunk too deeply into the mire and become entangled in far too many things.”

“If fellow Daoist falls into the hands of Three Lives Pharmaceuticals, I fear you will be reduced to human experimental material and subjected to inhuman torment.”
Mo Wendao silently assessed their current situation.

It was late at night, and Juan had already run a considerable distance.
There was no one in the alley and no vehicles on the street. They had already reached a corner beyond surveillance coverage.
...
What the hell was this lunatic babbling about?
Juan was about to slap Mo Wendao across the face and make him shut up when, in the next instant, he discovered that Mo Wendao had already landed steadily behind him.
The arm that had originally been carrying Mo Wendao had fallen to the ground without Juan noticing. The severed surface of the cybernetic limb was perfectly smooth.

Mo Wendao cupped his fists toward him in greeting. “Now, the only thing I can still do for fellow Daoist is grant you a swift death.”
