Chapter 64 : ‘You are overdoing it
Chapter 64 - ‘You are overdoing it.’
The task of the student representative is to showcase the demeanor, talent, and strength of the grade students of Carillian Academy before the Church of Radiance delegation.
According to the usual procedure, there should be a performance-like showcase where the students demonstrate their skills.
In other words, it was likely that Winnie would have to spar with a fellow grade student, and there was a chance he could be randomly paired with Aesphyra.
However, the Church delegation politely declined the performance arranged by Carillian Academy, citing fatigue from their journey, and retreated to the side hall to rest.

That was just as well. Winnie dislikes looking at the dried orange peels, but he's too lazy to do anything about it. If he ended up paired with Aesphyra, given his recent behavior of incessantly provoking her, she definitely wouldn’t hold back.
Getting publicly beaten up by her would be utterly humiliating. The memory of her nearly turning him into Vanessa during combat class was still fresh in his mind.

After all, he was ranked 23rd in his grade. He had a bit of an image to maintain and some pride to uphold.
Besides, just standing in formation earned him credits and a raise. Wasn’t that comfortable enough?
What the Church of Radiance and the higher-ups of Carillian Academy discussed afterward, Winnie didn’t know, nor did he need to know.
His goal had been achieved, and the rest wasn’t something a small fry like him could meddle in.

All in all, it was yet another day of triumph for Young Master Winnie. Not only did he earn money and credits, but he also maintained his persona, dispelling the Church’s suspicions about him, and managed to annoy the old fogeys from the Church. It was a triple win, and he was absolutely dominating.
Additionally, Winnie glanced at his Virtue Points, which had increased by 50, rising from 6904 to 6954.
This was from Mirexia. It seemed his acting had been a bit too explosive earlier, even leaving Mirexia momentarily stunned.
“Winnie.”

“Huh? What is it?” In the student council president’s office, just as Winnie thanked Mirexia and was about to leave after bidding her farewell, she called him back.
Winnie turned around in confusion, unsure what else Mirexia wanted to discuss.

“You... don’t have anything else you want to say to me?” Mirexia stopped Winnie with this ambiguous statement, then fell silent, averting her gaze and waiting for Winnie to respond.
‘Virtue + 20.’
‘Current Virtue: 6974.’
What’s going on now??
Was there something else he needed to say to Mirexia? He didn’t think so.
Winnie was baffled. Mirexia’s demeanor seemed to imply, ‘You still have something to tell me, so you can’t leave yet. But I won’t say what it is, you’ll have to figure it out yourself.’

Even though Mirexia hadn’t said a word, Winnie felt that this was exactly what she meant.
So why couldn’t she just say it outright? Wouldn’t that be easier for everyone? Why did she have to make him guess? If he guessed wrong, someone would inevitably get upset.
Strange, so strange.
A sense of peculiarity flashed through Winnie’s mind. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was locked in a battle of wits with a sulking girlfriend.
No, no, that must be his imagination. He knew better than anyone that while Mirexia appeared to be a decisive and resolute princess, she also had a somewhat conflicted and awkward side, especially in situations like this, where a hint of tsundere was involved.
Winnie fell silent, trying to decipher Mirexia’s thoughts and solve the ‘riddle’ she had presented to him.
Еnu m̄а . îd
Honestly, this was even more tortuous than solving math problems.
At least math problems had logic. Mirexia’s thoughts, on the other hand, were completely illogical. How was he supposed to know why she had stopped him or what specific matter she wanted him to address?

Was this matter important? Probably, otherwise Mirexia wouldn’t have deliberately stopped him while refusing to say anything.
But if it were truly critical, it likely wouldn’t be something that could be left hanging like this, with her making him guess instead of just saying it outright.
In the face of major events, Mirexia acted swiftly and decisively. She would never be so hesitant or roundabout. Thus, this matter was probably insignificant to the public but important to Mirexia personally.
Winnie furrowed his brow. He felt like he had uncovered some clues, but he still lacked a clear direction.

This was too hard to guess, and she wasn’t giving him any hints.
Winnie really wanted Mirexia to give him a hint. Otherwise, this guessing game couldn’t proceed. Alternatively, he could just tell Mirexia directly that he had nothing else to say to her.
But some intuition told Winnie that if he dared to say that, things would spiral out of control.
“.....Ah, I see. There is indeed something I need to tell you.” After thinking for a long time, Winnie, the Camela King of Ideas, had a sudden flash of insight. He felt like he had finally figured it out.

“Ah, look at me. How could I have forgotten?”
Seeing this, Mirexia remained silent, averting her gaze, her expression one of ‘I’m listening to your explanation,’ her lips slightly pursed.

“Last time, the steak you treated me to was absolutely delicious. It was the best steak I’ve ever had in my life. At the time, I thought it was so good that I wanted to eat it again. Now that I think about it, it was a bit inconsiderate of me to enjoy it alone without reciprocating. I’m really sorry.”
“This time, I’ve remembered. Next time, I’ll treat you to a meal at the same place.” Winnie even went as far as to grit his teeth and offer this, despite the expense.
That high-end restaurant cost several silver coins per meal. Winnie wasn’t sure if he could afford it, but he still made the offer.
After all, even though they were childhood friends and even though she wasn’t short on money, he couldn’t take advantage of her too much, right? That would only drive a wedge between them.

Winnie was certain that this was what Mirexia wanted to discuss but was too embarrassed to bring up herself.
“........” After hearing Winnie’s response, Mirexia seemed to go from hope to despair, falling into a prolonged silence, unable to speak for a long time.
‘Virtue + 200.’
‘Current Virtue: 7204.’
Huh?
Even if he had guessed Mirexia’s thoughts, was a 200-point Virtue increase really necessary? Wasn’t that a bit excessive?

While marveling at his own cleverness, Winnie frowned, feeling that something wasn’t quite right.
“So? Mirexia?” Winnie pressed.

Mirexia still didn’t respond.
Could it be that she was feeling awkward about him spending money?
Winnie was puzzled.
What he didn’t know, however, was that Mirexia was now so utterly speechless that she couldn’t even formulate a response.

With just those words, Winnie had left her feeling a mix of emotions, silent, exasperated, and completely at a loss for words.
Winnie frowned. Could it be that Mirexia was touched that he still remembered that meal?
Hmm, given his Camela idea man’s wisdom, that was entirely possible.
“Oh, by the way, Mirexia, let me tell you something. That girl with the platinum cross-shaped eyes, Luna, you know her, right? She’s a second-year student like you.” Winnie suddenly remembered this topic and asked.

“...What? Are you interested in her?” Mirexia’s tone cooled slightly.
Huh? What’s going on? Why did he gain Virtue just by asking about Luna?
“No, no, I’m not interested in her. It’s just that I’ve noticed something, she seems to be a descendant of the Horaleth family.” Winnie, oblivious to the slight chill in Mirexia’s tone, explained.
“Do you know the Horaleth family? They’re a prominent family in the Church of Radiance.”
“That’s great. If she’s talking to you, it means she’s interested in you, a descendant of the Varelis family, right?” Mirexia’s words carried a hint of sourness.
“Mirexia, what are you talking about? How could I possibly get close to these prominent families from the Church of Radiance? I’d rather avoid them.” Winnie didn’t understand why Mirexia’s tone had suddenly turned strange, but his explanation happened to align perfectly with Mirexia’s thoughts.

“So, you’re saying you’re not interested in her?”
“Interested in what?? She’s from the Horaleth family. I’d rather stay as far away from her as possible. How could I possibly get close to her? Otherwise, what do you think I was doing earlier? My previous actions were partly an act for her benefit.” Winnie explained.
“Your previous actions were all an act for her benefit??” Mirexia raised an eyebrow, referring to Winnie’s professional and dedicated study of sheer white thigh-highs in public.
“Yes, it was all an act for her benefit, to solidify my persona and make them lower their guard around me. What else could it be?” Winnie shrugged, his tone carrying a sense of righteousness, though of course, he was referring to his earlier performance acting at Saintness Selina Cathedral.

Strange, why did his Virtue increase again? Did he say something that stirred Mirexia’s emotions?
Winnie’s frown deepened. He was starting to feel that the Virtue increases were becoming erratic and inexplicable, making it hard for him to understand.

Either the Virtue system was malfunctioning, or Mirexia was.
Why would such an ordinary sentence cause Mirexia’s emotions to fluctuate?
Winnie couldn’t figure it out.
“Even if you say that, I doubt that’s what you were really thinking at the time, right??” After a moment of processing, a hint of relief flashed in Mirexia’s eyes, but she still pursed her lips and turned her head away, her radiant golden twin tails swaying with the motion.

“Why wouldn’t I be thinking that? That’s exactly what I was thinking. How else could I have been thinking? If you don’t believe me, I swear on the heavens, if I wasn’t thinking that, may I be caught by the Church of Radiance tomorrow and then...” Before Winnie could finish his oath, Mirexia stopped him.
“Alright, stop. I believe you.”

There, see? The increases were becoming more and more incomprehensible, as if simply talking to Mirexia would grant him Virtue over time.
“So, why did you bring her up?” Mirexia’s tone softened, returning to its usual calm.
Е́n u m̄ а
Her tone hadn’t been like this earlier.
Sigh, I really don’t get it.
Winnie shook his head. A woman’s heart is as deep as the ocean. Who could possibly guess what she was thinking?
“Well, this is a bit awkward to explain.” Winnie sighed. He couldn’t very well tell Mirexia that he had blown all his savings on gacha and had been forced to work at Vanessa’s maid café, could he?
That was an undeniable black mark on his history. The fewer people who knew about it, the better, even if that person was his trusted childhood friend.
As for that scoundrel Aesphyra, hah, Winnie didn’t expect her to keep his secret. But since she had no proof, he could just deny it outright.

Luckily, he wasn’t a public figure and never would be. Otherwise, if this black mark were exposed, he’d be utterly socially ruined.
“Well, here’s the thing. I once appeared before her in my female form and interacted with her. I’m worried she might have noticed something.” Winnie said.
“She came to you about this?” Mirexia raised an eyebrow.
“No, no, she definitely doesn’t know about my connection to Vanessa, but whether she knows Vanessa is a descendant of the Varelis family is another matter.”
“What I mean is, I’d like you to keep an eye on her for me, since you’re both second-years.”
“Understood.” Mirexia nodded in agreement. Entrusting this matter to Mirexia was the most reassuring option for Winnie.

Right now, Mirexia was the person Winnie trusted and relied on the most.
After their discussion, Winnie returned home in the afternoon.

As he entered his room and took off his coat, a piece of paper fluttered to the ground, landing conspicuously on the floor.
What’s this? A note? Did he have this with him when he left?
Or had he forgotten about it?
Winnie frowned slightly, picked up the note, and was about to throw it away when he noticed it was carefully wrapped, as if intentionally so.

Weird.
Feeling a sense of unease, Winnie opened the note and found writing on it.
On the pristine piece of paper were several magically printed words, making it impossible to identify the handwriting.
‘You are overdoing it.’

Winnie held the note, tilting his head in confusion.
As soon as he finished reading the words, they vanished like light, leaving the note blank.
