Chapter 101 : “Blue-haired kid, you've got guts.”
“Y-You??” The red-haired girl entering the carriage stared at Winnie in equal surprise, clearly not expecting to be assigned to the same compartment as him.
Winnie looked the girl up and down, long red hair tied in a single ponytail, vibrant and lively in style. It has been quite a while since he last saw this knight-in-training named Fanya.
Well, not quite a knight yet, more accurately, a prospective Saint Aurea Cross Knight. She hadn't earned the title yet.
“I didn't expect it'd be you either. Long time no see.” Winnie took the initiative to greet her. After all, they didn't have any deep-seated grudges. After their last encounter, Fanya had even apologized, admitting her previous words had been inappropriate and unfair.
Winnie considered himself quite magnanimous. As long as someone wasn't deliberately opposing him, he generally didn't hold it against them.

“Ah? Yes, it's been a while.” Fanya seemed momentarily taken back by Winnie's friendly attitude.
“Huh?” Shikondell blinked her large eyes, looking at Fanya with surprise. As far as she remembered, this red-haired girl had once caused trouble for Winnie, their relationship should've been quite tense.

Seeing Shikondell and Winnie already seated beside each other, Fanya dragged her suitcase and sat down in the middle seat, saying nothing.
“Oh?” The second-year senior glanced at Fanya, then at the two sitting together, finally realizing they all knew each other, leaving him as the only lone stranger here.
“So you three already know each other? Haha, what a coincidence.” The senior had no idea about their actual relationship, but seeing they were acquainted, he joked lightheartedly.
“Mmm.” Winnie wasn't sure what to say. His relationship with Fanya was still rather awkward, nothing much to talk about, so he simply gave a quiet acknowledgement.

“Winnie, how have you been lately?” Fanya asked casually, her eyes not directly meeting him, as if the question were offhand.
"Fine, thanks. How about you, Fanya?"
“I'm fine too.” Their conversation was painfully awkward, clearly the kind where people struggle to find things to say.
“Oh? Friend, you're Winnie??” The senior beside them suddenly widened his eyes, staring at Winnie in disbelief.

“Yeah, do you know me?” Winnie asked curiously.
“Haha, I've heard of you, Junior Winnie. You're one of the three first-years who reached the Warlock Realm, right??” The senior said.

“Mm, that's right.”
“Truly extraordinary talent. I really envy your talent. Right now I'm only an intermediate Artisan, just barely touching the threshold of advanced Artisan. The Warlock Realm still feels light-years away. I wonder how many more years it'll take just to glimpse its doorstep.” The senior sobbed, clearly frustrated.
If compared to everyone across the entire continent of Terraria, he was undoubtedly a prodigy, young and already nearing the rank of advanced Artisan. It was certain he would reach the Warlock Realm within his lifetime, destined for a bright future. But within the genius-packed halls of Carillian Academy, his talent seemed rather average, blending into the crowd, indistinguishable.
Winnie understood he'd taken a shortcut. The leap from advanced Artisan to Warlock Realm, the barrier that crushed thousands of aspirants, he'd cleared it with just a single point, skipping endless effort, sweat, and the risk of failure.
Not that he hadn't put in effort or sweat, just that those efforts were reflected on other people's faces.
“Senior, don't lose heart. I just got lucky. Since my soul armament level is low, reaching the Warlock Realm was relatively easier. With your talent, I believe it's only a matter of time before you get there too.” Winnie smiled.

This second-year senior, looking unusually mature, clearly came from a commoner background.
Having been at Carillian Academy nearly a year, Winnie had met numerous students from all walks of life. Now he could usually tell a student's background at a glance.
If this senior were noble-born, his attitude toward Winnie wouldn't be like this. Of course, not all noble-born students were arrogant, there were plenty of sensible and perceptive ones. But most were spoiled, looking down their noses at others.
Born with both privilege and talent, raised amid praise and comfort, living in luxury and constantly admired, of course they'd develop some pride.
“By the way, Fanya, how have your studies and cultivation been progressing lately?” Winnie asked.
“Me?” Fanya shook her head upon hearing this. “I can't compare to you.”

Her humility surprised Winnie.
This red-haired girl is headstrong and proud, yet firmly guided by her own principles and sense of morality. To her, every generation of the Reliance Saintess and the Goddess of Radiance was a sacred, untouchable figure.

To her, Winnie, a figure surrounded by controversy, showing no traits of Varelis, and cast out by the Church, was most likely an imposter. Such fraud deception was clearly a grave disrespect to the goddess and her saints.
In Winnie's eyes, even after her apology, her attitude shouldn't have softened this much.
Looks like Fanya's mindset had changed after their last encounter.
Was it because he'd defeated her head-on in battle? Or did someone's words finally reach her?

Winnie didn't know.
“I've only recently advanced to advanced Artisan. I can't compete with you,” Fanya added.
An advanced Artisan by the second semester of first year, within Carillian Academy, that was still an outstanding talent.
The senior beside them felt helpless. He'd only come for the academy trip, yet just by sitting in this carriage, his confidence had been wounded multiple times.

So the entire compartment had higher cultivation levels than him?
He was the oldest, yet the weakest. His juniors were all more talented and stronger. Who could accept that?

The senior could only laugh bitterly in his heart, silently lamenting how the younger generation truly surpasses their seniors.
“Fanya, you're being modest. I already said I was just lucky. Plus, my Soul armament level isn't high to begin with.” Winnie waved his hand.
“Winnie.” Fanya suddenly called out, turning to look at him.
“Mm? What is it?” Winnie didn't understand what she wanted.
“I want to know, if one day your bloodline awakened again, what would you plan to do?” Fanya suddenly asked.
“Why are you suddenly interested in this question, Fanya?” Winnie raised an eyebrow.

“Just asking. I want to know your plans.”
“Then, Fanya, what do you think I should plan for?” Winnie countered.
“Do you remember what I told you last time, Winnie?”
“Last time? That was ages ago.” Winnie shook his head.
“Winnie, it would've been better if your bloodline hadn't been sealed.” Fanya gazed out the window.
“Huh? Didn't you previously call me a fraud, an imposter? Why are you saying this now? Did you receive some revelation, or do you no longer think I'm fake?” Winnie teased.

“There needs to be a genuine Saintess now,” Fanya didn't answer directly. “No, I believe there's always a need.”
“And now, humanity has been without the Radiance Saintess for over a century.”

“Sometimes I wonder, if the Saintess were still here, would things have turned out like this?” Fanya sobbed softly.
Winnie could tell that after their last incident, this aspiring knight had pondered deeply, many things she'd never considered before.
“Fanya, I think these matters follow the tide of history. Some things are destined to be phased out the moment they're born. Anything that still exists means its time hasn't come yet.” Winnie seemed not to grasp Fanya's meaning, or perhaps he did, but simply disagreed.
“You can't just blame everything on whether the Radiance Saintess exists or not, can you?”

“I think it's best to let things take their natural course. Isn't the situation still managed?” Winnie said carelessly.
Although Winnie hadn't directly answered Fanya's question, the implication was clear to anyone listening.
Even if his bloodline were unsealed, he wouldn't get involved in these affairs anymore.
“I see.” Fanya nodded, then fell silent.

The entire carriage quieted.
The senior sensed the oppressive atmosphere and suggested the four of them play cards. But neither Fanya nor Shikondell knew how to play, nor could they quickly grasp the rules, so the idea was abandoned.

After several days of travel, Carillian Academy's first and second-year students arrived at the hot spring resort.
After stepping off the carriage, Winnie stretched his body widely. Carillian Academy's unicorn-drawn carriages were truly comfortable. The interior decoration and living conditions were five-star, the food was five-star too, everything was top-tier except for how boring it got.
Too bad they were confined to the carriage. Otherwise, Winnie could've gone find his fellow card players. What a waste to spend a rare holiday just traveling?
Winnie carried his luggage off the carriage and lifted back, other students were also gradually disembarking with their bags.
“Wow, the food on the carriage was too good.” Winnie pinched his little belly. “Dell, do you think I've gained weight these past few days?”
“Eh? Not really. You look just the same as before, Winnie.” Shikondell, carrying her luggage beside him, didn't notice any change.

“Really? Oh, Professor Franklin, long time no see! How've you been these days?” Spotting the familiar, perpetually disinterested deadpan teacher, Winnie greeted him.
“Long time no see? We had class the day before departure, did you forget??” Franklin shot Winnie a glare. “What are you standing around for? Move it.”
“Got it, got it. Professor Franklin, why are you in such a rush?”
“You think I have time to idle like you? I need to meet up with our arranged guide.” Franklin grumbles.
“Eh? We hired a guide?”
“You ask the obvious? Not only that, the academy contacted the Northern Tribe's leaders in advance. Otherwise, with so many outsiders entering their territory, we'd have been surrounded by the Northern Tribe long ago.”

“Don't run off and cause me trouble, got it?” With that, Franklin left ahead of Winnie.
Winnie returned to Shikondell's side, looking around. Probably because they were near the border, there weren't many people around.

“Is this... the Northern Tribe's main base?” Shikondell gazed at the surrounding scenery, lost in thought.
“Just the border. Not the main base.” Winnie said.
“Winnie, I hear hoofbeats,” Shikondell suddenly said. “And lots of them, very dense.”
“Hoofbeats??”
Ẁ е b̃ n оv̇ еl̀ Е̌ ṅům ã
Just then, Winnie indeed heard heavy hoofbeats approaching from afar, rapidly drawing closer.
He looked toward the sound and spotted a large group of cavalry on the nearby hilltop, dressed in nomadic robes and light armor, wearing distinctive tribal headdresses.
Upon seeing Carillian Academy's group, they halted atop the hill, seemingly discussing something.
Shikondell immediately shrank behind Winnie, timidly hiding and desperate to show her face.

Winnie, however, observed the Northern Tribe cavalry on the hill.
Heavy armor had long been obsolete, just like his Soul armament [Armour Fortress], it only thrived in the low-magic eras when Soul armaments and magic hadn't deeply developed. As various factions delved deeper into Soul armament research, producing increasingly terrifying magic, full plate armor had been completely phased out, along with heavy armor Soul armaments.

Thus, these nomadic cavalry of the Northern Tribe wore only lightweight armor for ease of movement.
Soon, the leader rode down the slope. He didn't bring everyone, only a few trusted men with him.
“Oh?” The captain descended, approaching Carillian Academy's student group. His eyes immediately landed on Shikondell among the students, so he rode slowly over, stopping five meters away from Winnie, Shikondell, and himself.
The tall, tribal man looked down at the petite Shikondell hiding behind Winnie.
“A Moon Elf?” The tribal man fell silent for a moment, then suddenly laughed. “Indeed. There were still fish who escaped back then.”
Shikondell didn't dare lift her head, shrinking behind Winnie. Winnie could even feel her trembling.

“Fish? Which fish? Do you mean that grass carp right in front of me?” Winnie looked at the tribal man, unflinching.
“Hmph.” The moment the words left Winnie's mouth, the tribal man's gaze turned onto him, and a sudden pressure weighed down on Winnie's shoulders.
Yet Winnie remained undisturbed. Although the tribal man towered over him and sat atop a horse, Winnie wasn't intimated by his presence. He met the man's eyes, looking up without a trace of submission.
Come on, getting overpowered by the protagonist's aura daily was one thing, but now some random NPC thought they could intimidate Winnie, the infamous delinquent of Camella's capital city??
“They say Carillian Academy is filled with exceptional talents. I used to think that was just empty talk. Now I see it's not entirely false,” the tribal man suddenly said as the tension mounted.
“Blue-haired kid, you've got guts.” With that, the tribal man turned his horse and rode away.
